Peptide Vendor Checklist: How to Tell Research-Grade from Garbage
Not all peptide vendors are equal. Use this 9-point checklist to separate legitimate research suppliers from the warehouse-and-rebrand crowd.
The peptide market exploded after the 2023 GLP-1 boom. New vendors pop up monthly. Many are warehouses with a Shopify storefront. A few are running real quality programs. This is how to tell them apart.
1. Third-party HPLC and mass spec on every batch
The single most important signal. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) measures purity; mass spec confirms the right molecule was synthesized. Legitimate vendors publish both as a Certificate of Analysis (COA) — on every batch, not just a marketing PDF from two years ago.
- Look for purity ≥98%.
- Look for the batch / lot number on the COA matching the vial you receive.
- Look for the testing lab's name and an independent contact.
2. Bacteriostatic water available as an add-on
A vendor that sells peptides but doesn't sell or recommend bac water is selling to people who don't know how to use the product. Most legitimate sources stock it.
3. Cold-chain shipping
Lyophilized peptides are reasonably stable at room temperature for days, but some (especially GLP-1s) ship better cold. Vendors using ice packs in the summer are paying attention.
4. Clear "for research purposes only" language
Legitimate vendors do not market peptides as medicines for human use unless they hold the regulatory approvals to do so. Aggressive medical claims are a red flag.
5. Verifiable batch traceability
You should be able to take a vial in your hand and tie its batch number to a COA on the vendor's website. If the COA is hidden, generic, or doesn't list your batch, walk away.
6. Reasonable pricing — neither too high nor too low
If a vendor is dramatically below market on a popular compound (Semaglutide, BPC-157), they're either dumping old stock, mislabeling, or running a different game. If they're dramatically above market without obvious justification (cold-chain GLP-1s with full clinical paperwork), pay only when you understand why.
7. Customer support that responds to technical questions
Email "What's the HPLC method you use on BPC-157?" If they don't know, they don't manufacture and may not have any visibility into who does.
8. Domain and company history
A vendor that registered their domain three weeks ago and ships from a single warehouse is not yet a track record. Older vendors with consistent product feedback have something to lose.
9. Honest content
A vendor that publishes blog posts saying "BPC-157 cures everything!" is not the source you want. Sources with measured, careful educational content tend to also be measured and careful about quality.
